In July 2017 I decided to build myself a dedicated studio space. After many long nights working into the early hours my studio was finished. Since then I have hidden myself away for at least a few hours everyday and painted!
This is the second in my series of oil portraits. At the start of 2016 Jeannie and I both decided upon this composition. I put brush to canvas at the beginning of September. The painting is now awaiting its frame, I will update you with a framed image in January.
2016 turned out to be a year full of different opportunities. I had a a couple of chances to try my hand at sign writing the names of a few beautiful yachts on the River Hamble. I have always admired the work of craftsmen, from carpenters and shipwrights, to metal workers and painters. Sign writing is very challenging but incredibly rewarding. I'm looking forward to my new projects next summer.
At the beginning of the year, I began work on my new series of big portraits. After a challenging few months I have finished the first of my series! This painting is now on its way to be framed, I'm looking forward to sharing it with you soon.
In November I entered the annual Bursledon Art Exhibition, I had visited in previous years and was very impressed with the variety of artwork on exhibit over the three day event. I had my heart set on entering in 2015, the exhibit is an open event, however I wanted to paint something relating to Bursledon's strong maritime heritage. I was reasonably pleased with my oil on canvas painting 'Heart of Oak'.
Although I did not sell the painting during the exhibition I was very pleased to have been able to take part and mingle with some great artists. It wasn't until mid January that I received the fantastic news that I had been awarded 1st place in the oil painting category.
Best in Show for Figures & Faces International Juried Art Exhibition March 2016!
Fusion Art's events offer great variety in every exhibition. Their gallery is filled with work from every corner of the globe. I'm thrilled to have been able to take part, and to have been awarded best in show.
This black & white photo shows the first stages of my current painting. This is the first canvas in my series of big portraits, that I aim to enter into exhibitions during 2016 & 2017. This painting should be finished and framed within a month!
In early January this year I had the oportunity to enter the 'Contemporary Art Gallery Online' international open exhibition. This event was the 4th annual 'All Paintings' exhibition and I was very keen to have a go at taking part this time. I entered a series of works and after a few tense weeks waiting, I had the fantastic news that the judges had awarded 'Little Scamps' Best in Show!
